Western India Bracing for Rare Tropical Cyclone Impact


Western India is bracing for an impact from Tropical Cyclone Nisarga.


Tropical Cyclone Nisarga is the first severe cyclonic storm since 1891 to impact Mumbai city.


The storm is expected to strengthen before making landfall.


Nisarga's earliest forecast made it expected landfall at the coastline of Maharashtra and Gujarat. Both states were on a pre-cyclone alert as of 1 June 2020.


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi via a tweet on 2 June 2020 updated that he spoke to Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Chief Minister of Gujarat and Administrator of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu while assuring all possible support and assistance from the Central Government.
