Unusual earthquake strikes Brazil



An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 struck western Brazil on Saturday.


The earthquake was centred 123.8 km northwest of Tarauacá, Brazil. It occurred at 5:31 p.m. local time at a depth of 628 km.


Brazil does not usually experience strong earthquakes. The area is not situated along any tectonic plate. Of the few earthquakes that do occur in Brazil, most are in the western area.
