Tropical cyclone form in the Atlantic over the next couple of days
It appears increasingly likely that we could see a tropical cyclone form in the Atlantic over the next couple of days.
Currently, there is a tropical wave southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. This feature has become better organized and models indicate that environmental conditions are conducive for additional development.
The National Hurricane Center says this system has a 70 percent chance of forming in the next 48 hours and a 90 percent chance in the next seven days.
If this system does form, it could become a hurricane. Based on current guidance, it looks like it will track west and then north and could play a role in our weather eventually, but this possibility is far from clear at this time.
The next named storm will be Bret.
