Storm to bring snow, rain, and strong winds to Newfoundland
A strong low will push across Newfoundland beginning on Saturday night and will bring severe weather to the Island portion of the province.
Most of Newfoundland will see snowfall, rainfall, and strong winds. Higher than normal water levels and large waves are also expected near parts of the east and northeast coast.
Overnight on Saturday, snow is expected to move into eastern Newfoundland. Snow will spread northwest across the island over the course of the day. The snow may mix with rain for a period on Sunday in the west, while transitioning completely to rain in the east.
The heaviest snow is expected to fall over central Newfoundland and the west coast. Some locations could receive 20 to 40 cm of snow. On the Avalon Peninsula, 10 to 15 cm of snow could fall followed by 25 to 50 mm of rain.
Winds are also expected to be strong with gusts between 80 and 120 km/h across most of the Island Sunday through Monday morning.
Large waves and pounding surf will produce higher than normal water levels along the northeast coast.
