Storm to bring heavy snow, mixed precipitation, and rain to Atlantic Canada
An area of low pressure will bring a mix of wintery weather to Atlantic Canada this weekend.
On Friday night, snow will move into southern Nova Scotia. Friday night into Saturday, mainland Nova Scotia could see 15 to 25 cm of snow.
Prince Edward Island will also receive significant amounts of snow with 15 to 25 cm expected. Winds will also gust to around 80 km/h.
While most of New Brunswick will escape the severe weather, southeastern areas could see around 15 cm of snow Friday night into Saturday.
In Newfoundland, it will be a mixed bag of weather.
Rain will be the dominant form of precipitation over southern and eastern areas of the Island with over 40 mm possible in some locations. Northern sections of the Island will see mostly snow with 15 to 25 cm expected. Elsewhere, precipitation is expected to begin as snow before transitioning through a mixture of ice pellets and freezing rain to rain over the course of the day on Saturday. Winds will also be strong with gusts possibly exceeding 100 km/h. Power outages are likely.
Conditions will improve for most areas on Sunday, though snow squalls will develop over western parts of the island.
