Significant storm impacting eastern Newfoundland
Snow has started across some areas of eastern Newfoundland as a winter storm rolls toward the area.
Ahead of the storm, schools on the Avalon Peninsula, the Burin Peninsula, through Clarenville and the Bonavista Peninsula are closed all day. Several post-secondary institutions including Memorial University are also closed all day.
St. John's and the Avalon Peninsula southeast will likely see the most snow with 20 to 30 cm expected. The remainder of the Avalon will get about 15 to 20 cm. For the Burin Peninsula, through to Clarenville and the Bonavista Peninsula, 10 to 15 cm is expected.
Winds will gust between 50 and 70 km/h over southern coastal areas overnight.
The snow will end tomorrow but gusty winds will continue through the weekend.
