Details on the Incoming Atlantic Canada Storm



Mostly snow is expected across the Maritimes with 15 to 30 cm expected for mainland Nova Scotia. Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, and southeastern New Brunswick will receive about 15 cm of snow.


The snow will start late this evening and persist into Saturday afternoon.


Snow will change to ice pellets or rain Saturday morning for eastern areas of Nova Scotia, reducing snowfall amounts. Gusty winds will cause blowing snow.



Newfoundland will see snow, freezing rain, rain, and strong winds.


In eastern Newfoundland, 20 to 30 mm of rain is expected. The Connaigre, Burin, and southern Avalon peninsulas will see 30 to 40 mm of rain from early Saturday morning until Saturday evening.


Significant freezing rain is expected for central and southwestern Newfoundland. These areas could see 4 to 6 hours of freezing rain. Along the Burgeo Highway 5 to 10 mm of freezing rain is expected.


For central and southwestern Newfoundland, 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected along with significant freezing rain and wind gusts to 100 km/h.


In Gros Morne and on the Great Northern Peninsula, 15 to 30 cm of snow is expected along with wind gusts between 80 and 100 km/h.


Across southeastern Labrador snowfall amounts of 20 to 30 cm is expected from Saturday morning into Sunday morning. Wind gusts between 90 and 120 km/h are possible.
