Death toll rises after Afghanistan earthquakes


Two powerful earthquakes struck the same region of western Afghanistan today. The first occurred at 11:11 a.m. local time and the second was at 11:42 a.m. local time.


Both earthquakes had a magnitude of 6.2. The first was located 35.5 km north-northeast of Zindah Jan, Afghanistan and the second was located 26.2 km north-northeast of Zindah, Afghanistan


Local officials have put the death toll at 120 and over 1,000 people have been injured. When the earthquake occurred several buildings were destroyed or damaged.
