Alberta records first tornado of the season

The first tornado of the season in Canada has been confirmed.


At approximately 7:20 p.m. on April 12, a brief tornado was observed approximately 10 km north of Rolling Hills, Alberta.


There have been no reports of damage at this time and this tornado has been given a preliminary rating of EF0.


This was considered a landspout tornado that was generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms.


ECCC meteorologists are seeking pictures of the tornado and/or any damage it may have caused.
