Alberta and southern Mackenzie Valley to see extreme temperatures this week

Beginning today, Alberta will experience a prolonged heat wave.

Temperatures will soar into the low 30s with overnight lows only getting down to the 20s.

The hot temperatures are expected to last for the remainder of the week at least.

Across the southern Mackenzie Valley, highs will reach the high 20s and low 30s through this week. Cooler temperatures may arrive by the weekend.

Those spending time outside should consider rescheduling outdoor activities to cooler hours of the day. Take frequent breaks from the heat, spending time in cooled indoor spaces where possible.

Stay hydrated and check for your children or pets before you exit your vehicle. Do not leave any person or pet inside a closed vehicle, for any length of time.
