6.0 magnitude earthquake south of the Fiji Islands

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake has occurred south of the Fiji Islands. It was centred 310.3 km south-southwest of ‘Ohonua, Tonga.


The earthquake occurred at 11:27 p.m. local time and was at a depth of 59 km.


No tsunami alert was issued and there were no reports of any injuries or damage.


The region frequently experiences earthquakes as it is located along The Ring of Fire, a path along the Pacific Ocean with active volcanoes and frequent earthquakes.
