179 people dead after plane crash in South Korea

South Korean officials have said that 179 people are dead after a Jeju Air plane skidded off the runway at Muan Airport in South Korea on Sunday.


The plane left the runway, crashed into a concrete fence and burst into flames. When the plane came in to land, the landing gear failed to deploy according to local eyewitness accounts.


There were 181 people on board the aircraft.


The Boeing 737-800 jet was arriving from Bangkok.
