A powerful line of severe thunderstorms swept across Manitoba on Wednesday, leaving behind widespread wind damage and large hail as Environment and Climate Change Canada tracked two separate areas of severe weather. Heavy rainfall brought localized flooding to parts of southern and eastern Quebec on Monday, with some communities receiving up to 85 millimetres of rain, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada. A strong 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck southern Japan on Tuesday afternoon. The earthquake occurred at 4:27 p.m. local time and was at a depth of 10 kilometres. It was centred 5.2 km east of Uto, Japan. A tsunami advisory was issued for the Ariake Sea, and tsunami waves of approximately one meter were expected. There are 19 new wildfires burning across Canada this morning, 11 of which are human-caused and eight are from natural causes. Of the 931 fires across Canada, 79 are out of control, 23 are being held, and 78 are under control. There are 614 fires being monitored.
