There is a risk of thunderstorms today across most of the Maritimes this afternoon, with the most significant potential focused over New Brunswick. Southern and western New Brunswick have the greatest thunderstorm threat. Storms may produce 70 to 90 km/h wind gusts, 1 to 2 cm hail and 20 to 40 mm of rain. There is also the possibility of tornadoes. Northern and eastern New Brunswick is at a somewhat lower threat, with wind gusts around 70 km/h, hail up to 1 cm and 15 to 25 mm

Tropical Storm Dolly is moving quickly westward across the Atlantic, but is not currently expected to remain a tropical storm by the time it reaches the Leeward Islands. The National Hurricane Center says Dolly is located about 2,290 kilometres east of the Leeward Islands as of 5 p.m. Thursday. The Northern Tornadoes Project has confirmed that two tornadoes occurred in eastern Prince Edward Island on Wednesday. The first tornado was observed at Little Harbour. It was rated as EF0 and caused some tree damage. The second tornado followed shortly after at Rollo Bay and occurred over water, making it a waterspout. An EF0-Default rating was assigned since no damage was reported.

At about 5:40 a.m. local time, a flood swept through the Himalayan border regions of Nepal and Tibet, killing 160 people. Hundreds remain missing. The flooding has affected local areas of Kavrepalanchok, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha districts, among others.
