Wet and Windy Day for Newfoundland, Snow for Labrador

An area of low pressure that is just southeast of Nova Scotia will bring some nasty weather to Newfoundland today.

There is a Wreckhouse wind warning in effect for Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity. Environment Canada says that, "strong southeasterly wind gusts are expected to reach 100 km/h this morning and will diminish late this afternoon as winds shift to southwesterly."

Rain will begin along the south and west coast this morning, before expanding across all of Newfoundland by this afternoon.

Rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 mm is likely over the west coast. Elsewhere rainfall amounts of 10 to 20 mm is likely. Over the south coast, some areas could locally see 20 to 30 mm.

Marine Atlantic is also impacted. The North Sydney to Port aux Basques crossing scheduled for 11:45 am will now depart at 2:30. Check-in time is 2 hours prior to departure. 

Meanwhile significant snowfall to Labrador tonight and Monday.

Total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 30 cm are expected by Monday evening.
