Winter Wallops Newfoundland

A monster winter storm slammed Newfoundland on Tuesday.

The storm brought the Island portion of the province to a halt closing many schools and businesses. The storm was also responsible for causing a multi-vehicle crash on the west coast, grounded flights, and disrupted ferry service.

Some locations on the Avalon reported over 20 cm of snow with lesser amounts in central and western Newfoundland. In western Newfoundland it wasn't the snow that caused problems but rather the wind. Wind gusts exceeding 100 km/h caused the snow that did fall to blow around and cause whiteout conditions.
