Winter Takes Hold in Alberta

Posted by Kyle Brookings on Tuesday, November 6, 2018

A low pressure system that tracked across Alberta on Sunday brought snow and freezing rain to parts of central and northern areas of Alberta.

Some areas received heavy amounts of snow:
  • Slave Lake: 14 cm
  • Fort McMurray: 10-15 cm
  • Peace River: 12 cm
  • Grande Prairie: 11 cm
  • Cold Lake: 8 cm
  • Red Earth: 7-10 cm
There was 5 hours of freezing rain in Grande Prairie late Saturday night, prior to the onset of snow. Environment and Climate Change Canada reported that rain or freezing rain continued for regions along the the low track as it moved east. With quickly plummeting temperatures the rain has created especially icy conditions for many areas.
