What Makes Tornadoes so Dangerous?

We all know that damage from tornadoes comes from the strong winds they contain, but what makes them so dangerous?

The biggest threat to us from tornadoes is from flying debris.

Tornado-related deaths have declined dramatically over the past few decades due to improved forecasts and better warnings.

Tornadoes are still difficult to predict, where exactly they will hit is also hard to tell, they be be extremely localized or travel for kilometers.

Where they hit is also a cause, they are less deadly in a sparsely populated area as opposed to large cities.

Massive death tolls from tornadoes are rare today. Having said that, if you are without shelter and in the path of a tornado, there is very little you can actually do.

The intense spinning of a tornado is partly the result of the updrafts and downdrafts in the thunderstorm caused by the unstable air.
