Vaping Co-Pilot Caused Plane to Drop 19,600 Feet

China's air authority is promising "severe punishment in accordance with laws and regulations," after a co-pilot on an Air China flight was smoking an electronic cigarette in the cockpit.

The co-pilot was trying to turn off air recycling fans to prevent the vapor from spreading into the passenger cabin.

He instead hit the wrong switches and it caused the plane to drop 19,600 feet.

This caused oxygen levels to dramatically drop on the plane which in turn caused the oxygen masks to be dropped.

The entire flight deck crew have been fired by Air China and the CAAC suggested revoking their pilot's licenses.

There were no reported injuries.
