US to Launch Advanced Weather Satellite

The United States is poised to launch an advanced weather satellite.

This new satellite "GOES-R" will be the most scientifically capable weather satellite ever sent into orbit.

The satellite will blast into orbit on November 19 and sit 35,800 kilometres above ground.

GOES-R can take pictures as often as every 30 seconds.

The new satellite cost a whopping US $11 billion. Three similar satellites will follow it through the year 2036.
