Unusual Tropical Storm Pali Forms

Tropical Storm Pali is continuing to gain strength as it spins far south of Hawaii.

The storm is about 2200 km southwest of Hilo.

Pali is rather unusual as it has formed out of season in the Central Pacific Ocean.

Maximum sustained winds are near 95 km/h. NOAA's Central Pacific Hurricane Center expects some slight intensification over the next couple of days. 

The storm is expected to maintain tropical storm strength as far out as Saturday, Jan. 16.

The storm poses no Threat to land.
