Typhoon Could Reach Japan by Mid-Week

Typhoon Shanshan is forecast to reach Japan, including Tokyo, by mid-week.

The storm could brush the area Wednesday and Thursday.

It has the potential to bring heavy rain and strong wind to the area.

Shanshan is currently equivalent in strength to a Category 1 hurricane.

As of 18:00 UTC on August 6, Typhoon Shanshan is located 383 km east-northeast of Chichijima, Japan. 10-minute sustained winds are at 130 km/h; 1-minute sustained winds are at 130 km/h with gusts of up to 185 km/h.
