Two Lows to Impact Province This Weekend

Posted by on Friday, January 6, 2017

An area of low pressure will approach Newfoundland on Friday night.

The system will bring some heavy rain to the Avalon and some snow to the south coast and Central Newfoundland.

The low will push off shore on Saturday afternoon as another low will progress from the south. It appears as though it will bring snow to most areas of Newfoundland.

On the Avalon we will see snow change the ice pellets before changing to rain.

That low moves off shore on Sunday night.

About 20 mm of rain is possible on the Avalon with the first low with lesser amounts elsewhere. The second low will be more of a snow event with some areas receiving 20 cm of snow. It appears as though the Burin up through Clarenville through the Bonavista Peninsula will be hardest hit.
