Two Large Earthquakes Hit Fiji

There were two large earthquakes in the Fiji region on Sunday.

The first was a 8.2 magnitude earthquake that was centered 269.0 km east of Levuka, Fiji.

Shortly after, small tsunami waves were observed.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said based on the data available, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not expected, and there was no threat to Hawaii. There was also no threat to the west coast of North America.

Shortly after the first earthquake there was a second smaller quake, measuring a 6.8 on the Richter Scale.

That earthquake struck 284.0 km south of Labasa, Fiji.

Both of the earthquakes struck popular tourist destinations.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
