Tree Killing Disease is Spreading

Posted by Kyle Brookings on Sunday, January 13, 2019

There is a disease that affects American beech trees.

The disease is now spreading. The disease began in Ohio and has since spread to Pennsylvania and Ontario.

Beech leaf disease affects American beech and no causal agent has yet been identified.

Striping or banding on several leaves on an otherwise healthy-appearing tree is the first noticeable symptom.

The first sign of the disease is dark-green bands appearing between the veins of tree leaves.

The disease was first found in 2012.
