Tornadoes in Canada

In Canada most areas are no strangers to tornadoes. Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan average the most tornadoes per year.

Fewer than 5% of tornadoes in Canada are rated E-F3 or higher in intensity.

Around 80 tornadoes that touch down in Canada each year.

Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan average about 15 tornadoes each year. In Quebec about 10 touch down annunally. New Brunswick and the interior of British Columbia are also recognized tornado zones.

Other province and territories have significantly less threat from tornadoes.

The deadliest tornado in Canadian history was in Regina, Saskatchewan on June 30, 1912. That tornado killed 28 people and hundreds more were injured.
