The tornado that touched down and tore through the Alonsa, Silver Ridge, and Margaret Bruce Beach area back on Friday has been rated as an EF-3.

Tornadoes rated an EF-3 are dangerous. EF-3's can cause severe damage.

In well populated areas entire stories of well-constructed houses may be destroyed; severe damage to large buildings such as shopping malls; trains overturned; trees debarked; heavy cars lifted off the ground and thrown; structures with weak foundations are badly damaged.

A 77-year-old man died after the tornado hit his home in Alonsa, Manitoba on Friday.

The investigation is ongoing and this preliminary rating may change as more information becomes available.
