Thousands Could Be Without Power All Night

Posted by on Saturday, March 11, 2017

There are currently multiple power outages across Newfoundland impacting thousands of customers.

As of 8:30 there at still 48,000 customers without power.

Newfoundland Power is only making repairs where possible.

With high winds it is still too dangerous for crews to safely fix some lines.

Some customers will be offline all night.

There are several downed lines and damaged equipment.

In the St. John's area power is out for St. John's, Conception Bay South, Mount Pearl, Northeast Avalon, and Southern Shore.

There is no power for St. Mary's Bay, Trinity Shore, Whitbourne, Conception Bay North, and Cape Shore.

On the Burin Peninsula there are outages in St. Bernards, Boat Harbour, Brookside, Baine Harbour, Harbour Mille, Jacques Fontaine, Rushoon, Little Harbour East, Bay L'argent, Parkers Cove, Petite Forte, Red Harbour, Little Bay East, Terrenceville, Grand Le Pierre, English Harbour East, and Burin Peninsula. This outage is due to a loss of power supply from NL Hydro.

The transmission line servicing St. John’s customers has been restored and customers are being brought back online now.

However, Hydro wishes to advise that the extreme weather is putting the system at an increased level of vulnerability. Please prepare for potential power outages.
