The Weird Reason You Want a White Christmas

Posted by on Sunday, December 4, 2016

Even those who dislike snow probably want a white Christmas, but there are many areas that get a green Christmas every year, in some areas a white Christmas is rare, so why do we all look for a white Christmas?

It comes from Charles Dickens. He wrote about Britain covered in snow in the winters of 1813-14 onward for nine years. That was a decade of unusually cold weather around the world.

Experts say that it was the snowy weather of that decade that made a white Christmas the image of Christmas.

Dickens also wrote a popular essay on Christmas Trees which were brought over to Britain by Prince Albert in 1840.
