Newfoundland and Labrador is know for it's picturesque landscapes and friendly people. It can also be known for a strange place name of two. We have complied a list of the strangest place names in Newfoundland and Labrador
Conception Bay: is a bay on the southeast coast of Newfoundland.
Heart's Desire: Located in Trinity Bay. The tiny community has a population of 226.
Cow Head: is located on the Great Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland, in Gros Morne National Park.
Joe Batt's Arm: also known as Joe Batt's Arm-Barr'd Islands-Shoal Bay is a community located on Fogo Island.
Nameless Cove: Located on the Great Northern Peninsula. Formally known as Flower’s Cove. However present day Flower’s Cove took their present name and left the former Flower’s Cove now nameless.
Leading Tickles: the town had a population of 407 in the Canada 2006 Census. It is located approximately 25km Northwest of Point Leamington on the shores of Notre Dame Bay.
Come by Chance: town on the Avalon Peninsula. Located in this town is Newfoundland's only oil refinery, the Come By Chance Refinery operated by North Atlantic Refining Company, which has a capacity of 115,000 barrels per day.
Happy Valley: Happy Valley-Goose Bay is located in the central part of Labrador, Happy Valley-Goose Bay is the largest population centre in that region.
And the strangest place name is... Dildo. Dildo: is located on the southeastern Dildo Arm of Trinity Bay about 60 kilometres west of St. John's. In the 20th century there were several campaigns to change the name, though all failed.
