Strong Wind Brings Nova Scotia to a Standstill

Posted by Kyle Brookings on Tuesday, December 26, 2017

Roads in Nova Scotia this evening are snow covered and slippery. The wind is picking up causing poor visibility in many areas.

There are many large trees down and blocking streets.

Nova Scotia Power says that there are more than 80,000 customers without power.

The high winds and many broken poles are proving to be a challenge for crews, but they continue to restore power when it is safe to do so.

Outages can be reported at 1-877-428-6004.

Winds will gradually diminish overnight.

At the Halifax Stanfield International Airport there was a recorded wind gust of 101 km/h at 8:00 pm.

Most flights in and out of the Halifax Stanfield International Airport have been delayed or cancelled.

Marine Atlantic has cancelled all crossing for this evening and tomorrow.
