There was a strange phenomenon observed over the skies of southern Manitoba on Saturday.

Light pillars appeared across the skies.

You first question is probably what is a light pillar?

A light pillar is an atmospheric optical illusion in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above and/or below a light source.

Light pillars are not related to the aurora borealis, but rather originate from here on Earth.

In order to see light pillars form there needs to be a very delicate balance of temperature and humidity. This is why they are so rare.
