A powerful low has slammed western Washington state killing one and injuring five.

Strong winds and heavy rain knocked out power to more than 180,000 homes and businesses across the state on Monday.

The intensity of the wind on trees was amplified because many trees still had their leaves.

The one death happened in Renton when a tree fell on a car. The victim is a mother in her mid-30s.

There was also an instance when a tree fell on a mobile home injuring a 15 year old girl.

Later this week another storm is expected to hit the Pacific Northwest.
