Storm Heading Toward Newfoundland

Posted by on Monday, November 30, 2015

A developing low pressure system over the Plains region of the United States will track eastward across Canada to reach Newfoundland by Wednesday night.

Ahead of the low Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Newfoundland.

Behind the first low very strong winds are expected to develop just as the second low arrives. Rain will spread across the Island at first. Central and Northwestern Sections will transition over to snow by Thursday morning.

At this time we expect Northwestern Newfoundland to receive as much as 25 cm of snow. Across the south coast and the Avalon 30 mm is possible. Wind gusts to 80 km/h are also possible except 90 km/h in Wreckhouse.

Of course this event is still a few days away. As we progress in time these numbers may vary and change.

Conditions will not improve until Friday night.
