State of Emergency Declared in Montreal

Posted by on Sunday, May 7, 2017

The Mayor of Montreal, Denis Coderre, has declared a state of emergency for the City.

The state of emergency is expected to last for 48 hours.

Southern Quebec, along with much of Eastern Canada, has been pelted with heavy rain that has sparked flash flooding events.

In Montreal, floods have forced the evacuation over 150 homes in several parts of the island.

1,200 troops have been deployed to help with flooding.

Citizens in sectors at risk must call 311 for information, advice or sandbags (free) to protect their homes.

Municipal employees and several partners are out in force, constantly monitoring the situation as it progresses. They will also keep a close eye on the situation in the coming days.
