Solar Storm to Hit Earth Today

Posted by Kyle Brookings on Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Today and Wednesday a minor solar storm will hit Earth.

It is expected that the northern lights may be visible as far south as the northernmost parts of the U.S.

The U.S. Space Weather Prediction Center said that the storm could also trigger fluctuations in some weak power grids but will have only a minor impact on satellites in space.

The solar storm originated in a coronal hole.

Depending on the strength of solar storms they can knock out satellites, disrupt power supplies and creating northern lights displays in southern Canada and the United States.
