Snow & Freezing Rain in Alberta

Posted by on Thursday, October 13, 2016

A series of low pressure systems that was delivering rainfall and strong wind to British Columbia has made their way into Alberta.

The first storm system moved through Alberta on Thursday, snow developed in the Peace County area in the afternoon and moved into Saskatchewan. Snowfall from that storms was minimal with accumulations of no more than 5 centimeters.

However, the next low pressure system is stronger and will bring anything from freezing rain to heavy snow into central Alberta beginning on Friday morning.

Heavy snow will develop near the Elbow. In some cases 5 to 10 centimeters of snow however some areas may reach even higher amounts.

Near Rocky Mountain House in every region there is the possibility of freezing rain. The good news is that on Friday afternoon freezing rain will change to rain as the temperature rises.
