Six Dead in Mexico From Beatriz

Posted by on Monday, June 5, 2017

What was once Tropical Storm Beatriz made landfall Thursday evening in the Mexican state of Oaxaca.

The storm delivered flooding rain that triggered multiple mudslides and cause the death of at least six people.

Two of the victims were a 14-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy.

Officials closed schools in the state on Friday as transportation was brought to a halt.

Beatriz was downgraded to a post-tropical cyclone on Friday.

The system is now in the Gulf of Mexico. Strong upper-level winds have displaced the associated cloudiness and showers well to the east of the center, and tropical cyclone formation is not expected.
