Significant Rain and Freezing Rain Event Possible for Newfoundland

Posted by on Tuesday, April 25, 2017

Some nasty weather could be eyeing parts of Newfoundland Wednesday and Thursday.

Precipitation should begin in the form of rain over western sections of the Island as soon as tomorrow afternoon.

Rain will spread across western and central Newfoundland, including the south coast. For some areas significant rainfall amounts are possible.

Rain will likely change over to freezing rain along the northeast coast and parts of central and western Newfoundland on Thursday. If we receive large amounts of freezing rain this will lead to ice accretion on power lines which can cause power outages.

Models have not yet been consistent with precipitation amounts. However, we expect the heaviest rain along the west coast of the Island. The heaviest freezing rain is expected in central Newfoundland.
