It has been an exceptionally snowy winter in California's northern Sierra Nevada Mountains.

So much so that the area has surpassed its all-time wettest year this week.

The peak season for snow is November through March.

Each spring, the melted snow pack from the Sierra supplies water to much of California.

As of Thursday, there is an average of 2278.38 mm of water across eight stations since October 1. The previous record of 2247.9 mm, set during 1982-83.
