Setting up a Weather Station

How you place weather instruments can greatly impact the accuracy of your measurements.

Here are some tips to set up you own weather station.
Temperature / Humidity Sensor
• Should be placed on a patch of level ground, over a surface representative of the area.
• Should be mounted in a ventilated radiation shield.
• Height between 1.25 – 2.0 m.
• Ideally placed at a horizontal distance of 10 times the height of the nearest obstruction.
Rain Gauge
• Ideally mounted at a height of 1.25 – 2.0 m above the ground.
• Ensure the gauge is mounted from any horizontal surface.
Anemometer
• Ideally mounted at 10 metres above ground level.
• Placed at a horizontal distance of 10 times the height of the nearest obstruction.
