Posted by on Monday, June 27, 2016

Ottawa announced on Sunday that repair is nearing completion on the massive sinkhole on the intersection of Rideau Street and Sussex just a few blocks from Parliament Hill.

Prior to the Canada Day celebrations in the Nations Capital the intersection will partially reopen.

The sinkhole caused evacuations, destroyed a van, and caused travel headaches.

Crews are entering the final stages of repair, they are filling the massive hole with concrete.

The monster sinkhole spans over four lanes of Rideau Street.

No injuries were reported.

A sinkhole is basically a cavity in the ground caused by water erosion and providing a route for the surface to disappear underground.
