Remembering 9/11

We all remember the morning of September 11, 2001, when a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda devastated the United States.

Two planes hit the World Trade Center, one hit the Pentagon, while the fourth crashed in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

In total 2,996 people were killed in the attacks and over 6,000 were injured. There was at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage and $3 trillion in total costs.

After American airspace was closed 38 airliners, totaling 6,122 passengers and 473 crew, were diverted to Gander International Airport. It was part of Operation Yellow Ribbon. Operation Yellow Ribbon was commenced by Canada to handle the diversion of civilian airlines.
