A buoy several hundred kilometers south of New Zealand has measure a monstrous wave.

The wave was almost 24 meters.

A wave of that height sets a new record for the Southern Hemisphere.

It was associated with a storm that was moving through the area at the time.

The old record was set last year in the same spot with a wave of 19.5 meters.
