Record Breaking Heat in the West

Posted by on Tuesday, April 19, 2016

The Prairie Provinces and basically all of western Canada have been sweltering in unseasonably warm weather over the past few days. Countless records have fallen. Calgary tied a 106-year-old weather record. The warm weather has broken an 82-year-old record for Victoria.

Lytton BC reached a high of 30.6 smashing the old record of 27.2 set back in 1934.

The cause if the warm weather is an upper ridge of high pressure combined with southerly winds over most of the region.

Temperatures will return to closer to seasonal values on Thursday. The exception is Alberta who will hold on to the heat for an extra day.
