The federal government is planning for several potential scenarios that may occur this Spring along the Manitoba border.

Since January 1, close to 200 people have illegally crossed the Canada/U.S. border near Emerson claiming asylum.

Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said that both the RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency are planning for possibilities such as a major flood on the Red River.

Flood forecasters say there is an 80 per cent chance of major flooding in the Red River.
