Rare Event Returns Beach Missing for Over 30 Years

Around Easter this year there was a freak tide event that deposited sand along a stretch where sand once laid on Achill Island.

The sand was originally washed away during a large storm back in 1984 leaving only rocks and rock pools.

Achill Island lies off County Mayo on the west coast of the Republic of Ireland. Marked by rugged mountains and peat bogs, the island is known for its tall sea cliffs and clean beaches.
