It will be a nice day for most of Newfoundland today with the exception being the Avalon where some rain is expected.

The rain is in association with an area of low pressure that is expected to pass just south of Newfoundland today.

While most of Newfoundland will be spared, the Avalon may actually pick up some significant rainfall.

The southwestern Avalon could see 20 to 30 mm of rain. For St. John's and areas southwest including Placentia about 10 to 20 mm is expected. Areas such as CBS and Carbonear will pick up about 5 to 10 mm of rain. Areas further north on the Baccalieu Trail such as Old Perlican will only pick up about 2 to 5 mm of rain. On the Burin Peninsula, trace amounts of rain is expected.

Daytime highs across Newfoundland will range anywhere from 5 degrees on the Avalon to temperatures near the freezing mark elsewhere across Newfoundland. On the Great Northern Peninsula, temperatures will be near zero degrees.
