Queensland Surveys Devastation After Debbie

Posted by on Tuesday, March 28, 2017

Residents of Queenland in Australia woke up to devastation on Wednesday when cyclone Debbie roared ashore bringing a deluge of heavy rain and strong wind.

At the height of the storm there was a risk up to 250 mm of rainfall in a day. Damaging winds up to 120 km/h, continued along the coast and over higher terrain.

48,000 homes lost power. One man was badly injured when a wall collapsed on him in Proserpine.

The Australian Defense Force has mobilized soldiers, vehicles, aircraft and other resources to respond to the cleanup.

Debbie was downgraded to a tropical low early on Wednesday and is now well inland.
