Posted by on Tuesday, May 17, 2016

The Fort McMurray Fire continues to burn out of control. It is now 305,000 hectares in size.

Non-essential staff of camps south of Fort McKay evacuated North. Today the primary focus are winds that will push the fire towards Suncor and Syncrude. Camps will have to be made safe for re-entry before workers sent back there. Today crews are scrambling to get 6,000 evacuees to safety. So far there have been no damages to oil-sands facility. However Blacksands camp has burnt and two other nearby camps at risk.

Those sent to bring the hospital back online have also been evacuated.

The fire will likely reach the Saskatchewan border today.

There have been two separate explosions today. The first was in DIckensfield, the other in Thickwood damaging 10 homes. Both fires have been extinguished.
