Powerful Earthquake Rocks Micronesia

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck in the Federated States of Micronesia.

The earthquake struck the State of Yap at 12:22 am local time Friday morning.

It was centered 54.4 km northwest of Fais, Micronesia.

Fais Island is a raised coral island in the eastern Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in the state.

There was no threat of a tsunami to Guam or the Mariana Islands from the earthquake.
